The CAL-II software package can process and manage all major crude oil properties and blending characteristics. The basic system was originally developed by Chevron Research Corporation to aid their refining interests throughout North America and worldwide.

After HSI acquired the rights to develop and market the package, we built on this robust platform, adding user friendly interfaces, extended correlation techniques for certain properties, and metric units.

CAL-II will work with your existing corporate assay database or it can be augmented with high quality assay libraries from Chevron, British Petroleum, Petrofina, Phillips and Haverly Systems. CAL-II offers enhanced economic, strategic and operating decision support. CAL-II is easy to use and easy to connect to your planning package or other related applications and provides excellent ways to:

Manage assay libraries

Access and process any number of crude assays

Graphically smooth, extend, and compare property curves

Add new crude assays

Adjust old assays

Accurately predict cut yields and properties using integration techniques

Calculate cut data for single crudes, crude groups, crude mixes, and hydrocarbon stream spikes

Estimate hydrocarbon gas chromatograph analyses

Simulate crude tower distillation for better data accuracy

Augment existing assay data with accurate predictive property correlations

Produce spreadsheet or text file results

cal2.gif (23361 bytes) If data concerning an existing assay needs to be modified, then add the new data using the Crude Manager interface program. The whole assay does not need to be replaced. Should you need to track the history of a crude assay, then modify the existing assay as needed and then save it with a unique name. Data can be exported either to a database system or a spreadsheet for further evaluation.

Physical units of CAL-II are under user control. The user defines the cut points for a proposed distillation, and the program will calculate the resulting volume percent and properties of each cut.

The crude can be a single crude, a mixture of crudes, or a crude and another stream (such as coker naphtha recycle). With unit factors, CAL-II can evaluate the actual properties one would obtain in the refinery. Alternatively, the user can obtain pure TBP output data. The user could also define the desired volume percent and then the system would calculate the cut points. Finally, if the user were interested in producing a cut with a specific quality level, the system would calculate the cut point temperature and the volume percent to achieve that level.
