H/COMET Training

June 6, 2012

The H/COMET course covers all the functionalities of Haverly Web-based Crude Oil Management Evaluation Tool: viewing and comparing crude assays; calculating Netback values for a specific region, country or operator refinery; and estimating breakeven prices for opportunity crudes.

  • H/COMET Overview
  • Viewing and comparing assays
  • Crude re-cutting and cut qualities prediction
  • Blending crudes and optimizing blends
  • Refineries set up for a specific region or country
  • Netback values of processed crudes
  • Crude Substitution and breakeven prices
  • Analyzing economical results
  • Analyzing technical results (LP)
  • How to save and manage your online cases and data
  • Accessing grades information through PetroTechIntel CIMS

This course is intended for refinery planners, economic planners, crude traders and crude producers who require an easy and quick-to-use tool that can be accessed from everywhere. No prior experience with H/COMET or refinery economics is required.

The course includes hands-on exercises so attendees must bring a laptop computer. Internet connection will be provided to access H/Comet on the web.

H/CAMS-X Training

June 5-6, 2012

The H/CAMS Course covers all the essential topics of Haverly’s crude assay management software. H/CAMS has gone through a complete makeover starting with the new user interface and with the new separation technology. The course will cover the concept of crude re-cutting and how to configure H/CAMS to obtain best representation of product streams produced in your operations.

  • How to use the new interface
  • Basic H/CAMS-X features
  • Entering and validating assays data
  • Assay data work-up (smoothing) - iCDM
  • Updating an old assay (Flash Assay Tool)

  • Interface to other applications or creating custom reports
  • Tray inefficiency modeling
  • Blend optimizer
  • Output database creation

This course is intended for planners, process engineers, and plant engineers who regularly require good property data from crude assays. No prior experience with H/CAMS is required.

Course contents and timing will vary depending on the experience level of the participants. This is a full, two-day class. Students need to bring a laptop computer with H/CAMS installed in order to do the course exercises.

Refinery Economics

June 5-6, 2012

  • How to calculate refinery netback prices
  • Why the “herd mentality” is so common in the industry
  • How to use LP models to guide decision making
  • How to evaluate crude and feedstock purchase opportunities
  • How to evaluate incremental product sales
  • Limitations of Shadow Values
  • Planning & Optimization Best Practices

The course is intended for anyone who takes part in the development of refinery operating plans or helps decide business strategy. This is not just for the economic analyst; it is also valuable to crude and feedstock traders, product marketers, supervisors, and process engineers.
